[vtkusers] wxVTK and wxWidgets 2.8, vtk timer start failed

The folks at Inria http://www-sop.inria.fr/asclepios/software/vtkINRIA3D/ seem
to have fixed the problems with  wxVTKRenderWindowInteractor regarding
building under wxWidgets-2.8

Perhaps Mathieu would like to incorporate these changes into the "official"
distribution.

However one problem still exists and it is a VTK issue and this relates to
the following:

ERROR: In ..\..\..\src\VTK\Rendering\vtkInteractorStyle.cxx, line 379

vtkInteractorStyleJoystickCamera (025BEEE0): Timer start failed
Has any progress been made to fix this in the VTK distribution?
The bug does exist in the bug tracker (0003164) and has been around for a
long time.
Of course the solution seems to be pressing "t" to go into trackball mode
but this is a real pain.
Generally the TCL tests and examples in VTK in Linux won't run because of
this problem.
