[vtkusers] how to add global parameters to a vtk file?

Hello,
I wonder if it is possible to add global parameters to a vtk file.   
The file format I`m working with is .vtm (vtkHierarchicalBoxDataSet).   
The kind of parameters I would like to add have a global value, (eg.  
the ratio of specific heats).  They should not be visualized, they  
should just be ignored and their only importance is that I want to use  
my output .vtm files as the input files for further simulations.
So my question is: does there exist a possibility to add extra  
information (in the header part) which is completely useless for the  
visualization?
