[vtkusers] Contrast Enhancement

Dear VTK Users,

I've been reading previous posts but have not found any solution to my 
seemingly simple problem:
I need to contrast enhance an image.
>From previously posted messages I found out that contrast 
enhancement was possible through the image actor but my program 
does not use any actors (GUI is handled with another tool).
Is there a VTK class that can perform contrast enhancement? Hopefully 
there is.
