[vtkusers] How to get inverted VOI

I begin to use VTK three months ago and really feel like it now.  I got two problems you guys may help me to figure out.  
(1) I am using vtkStructuredGrid and try to get some subgrid.  If I use SetVOI in vtkExtractGrid, then I will get a subgrid.  What should I do if I want to show the invert of the subgrid?
(2) Is there any filter so I can append several curves (colored lines) together?
