[vtkusers] Help for a beginner

Hi folks,

Can anyone direct me toward a manual or a tutorial that might help me
create a .exe that will convert .vtk files into .stl format (or .wrl)? I
am an abject novice, and have very little programming background, so I
really have to start from the bottom and work my way up. As I understand
it, VTK will allow me to write a relatively simple file converter; I
just need to know where to look to find out how. Any help will be
appreciated.
