[vtkusers] Why do rendered object sometimes appear "perspectively reversed"?

It seems that vtk renders in perspective by default but sometimes when rotating with the mouse it seems to reverse this perspective for a while, so things closer appear smaller, (and the mouse movements also reverse)  and then it goes back to normal. I have not determined what causes this it just sometimes happens and sometimes not. Can anyone tell me about this?
