[vtkusers] Does EdgeVisibilityOn do anything?

Saw some mention of this a few months ago and the conclusion reached there
was to use something else (manually extract edges, etc).  Why does this not
'work' how it seems like it intuitively should (i.e., turn it on and
watch)?  

(There's always the not-so-remote possibility that I'm missing something)
