[vtkusers] 256 color image (tif or png)

Hello,
This might be a simple question, but I can't seem to find the answer.

Can you save a 1 component unsigned char image (tiff or png) with a
corresponding lookuptable?  Or alternatively, can you associate a lookup
table with image data?
