[vtkusers] Getting the time for rendering

Hello users,
 Lately I have been doing a 256 x 256 x 256 data rendering.  It is for an application(medical imaging).  From the time the rendering bagins till the image is shown, there is no clue as to how much time it is going to take.  Is there a way to get it?.  The window appears but the image appears several seconds later.  I wish to do the following.  From the time the window is shown, till the image is appearing I want to flash a message that the process is still going on.  Can some one help me?
