Chris,

If you are using Tcl "GetScalarComponentAsFloat" might solve (at least part of) your problem. I do not have the documentation in hands but I think you can find aditional information easily.

   Does anyone know how to get the data (scalars and vectors) from one 
point in a structured grid? I want to put it into a regular variable (float 
or double).
