[vtkusers] External Render Recommendations, Please

Hello vtkers,

I'm working on trying to find a nice combination of

  vtkExporter -> {optional conversion} -> External rendering

The things I'm hoping to gain are antialiasing and shadows.  My 
requirements are 

  Free
  Unix Compatible 
  Preferably command-line for batch processing

Does anyone have a combination that they are happy with and would like
to recommend.  Some of the things that I've already tried are posted
