[vtkusers] Linux compiling Errors for vtk40

I first heard of VTK about a week ago and have since downloaded Cmake and
VTK source code.

My Linux compilation of vtk40 seems to run into errors no matter what
changes I make to setup configuration (cmake -i). I have tried changing the
CC and CXX variables, but errors are still generated. I would have posted
the compiler error, but they are almost always different, from what seems
like the assembler file causing a seg fault to a reported syntax error in
within the vtk code itself. 

Please let me know how to begin troubleshooting something like this....
