[vtkusers] images format?

Hello
I have a set of imagenes in ppm format, wanted to know as I can read 
imagenes to apply metodo to him of marching cubes . I like to have an 
isosurface from this image set.

1. Also that type of format uses imagenes for vtkVolume16,.
How is the struct of the format of the data that use vtkVolume16
