[vtkusers] HELP! pixel values from image data

hi all

could someone "enlighten" me how could i access the pixel values of an 
image returned from the image reader?
(256x256 image, is there any simple way to get the 256x256 array and 
lets say get the pixel value for pixel [18,48]?)

in addition, if i use file prefix and the reader reads a number of 
slices is it possible to retrieve the array for a specific slice?

i would really appreciate any response
