[vtkusers] Is there an external interface for communication with a vtk application?

> I have a vtk application (vtk4.0 w/ Java for Win2k) for which I do not have the source code.  I would like to "send a message" to this application to get it to export a vrml file using vtkVRMLExporter.  Is there a way to communicate with the application externally?
