[vtkusers] Newbie question: how to check which updates have been performed to a given release?

Dear all, 

I've installed VTK 4.0 but noticed that version 4.2 was already
available for download. My question is: how can I know which bug
corrections / updates / new functions have been applied to this new
version, or for any version in general.

The answer might seem easy for you, but it still isn't for me! Could you
give me a clue?
