[vtkusers] "sample" interactor dosn't work

I am using the "sample" winows app from vtk32.
It loads the vtk type files fine, but the interactor does not work.
My "Spy" says that lots of mouse "windows" messages are being generated.

Anyone have any ideas about this?
It would be great if I can get the interactor to work.
