[vtkusers] Help with install and GUI

Hi,
    My name is Jerry Pulley.  I am taking a visualization course this summer.  I have purchased the VTK users Guide with CD from online, and have encountered some issues that I don't fully understand.  I have MCVC++ 6.0 installed, and I don't quite understand the book procedure on install.  Under the windows section, after the Binary install of all five parts, there is a Source Code Install.  Is this install necessary?
