I need to develop a tool[s] for Knowledge and Information
Visualization .

I've done an initial investigation of what's been done in information
visualization and have found that
this can be an interesting application even for visualization tools
normally used for numerical data. I'd
like to find ways to use VTK object classes for Information and
Knowledge visualization. If anybody
knows of papers or free software targeted at this area please respond.
Maybe an email thread on this
subject can created as responses to this inquiry. All that I've come
up with so far is some ideas:

1) There is a relatively new area called KDD (Knowledge Discovery in
Databases) which
seems to be a systematic way of extracting knowledge from the
results of data mining using multivariate
visualization tools. VTK probably has several such tools
(including parallel coordinates and scatter plots
for example) which could be used to build a KDD system.

2) This is only a vague idea but if the information is modeled with OOP
then since VTK is object oriented
there should be some 1-1 translations from information hierachies
to vtk object hierarchies .

            - One simple thing is that the units of knowledge might be
simple shapes (maybe superquadrics).
An information tree could be built with spatial
transformations on the shapes. Each shape
could be created in a ways so that it inherited visual
attributes in a direct correspondence
to its inheritance of knowledge from another object
class.

Thanks in advance,
Dave
