[vtkusers] Writing VTK filters in Python and C

I want to write a filter to modify a dataset.  I'd like to implement it in Python to see how it works, then in C if I like it.  Is it possible to write a class in Python that can be used in the VTK pipeline as a filter?  What's involved?  Secondly, are there instructions for writing and compiling a C class for use with VTK under python?
