[vtkusers] problem with POSIX threads

OR you could upgrade to VTK 4.0 and set the appropriate
options when configuring the build. CMake (which VTK 4.0
uses as the build configuration utility) allows things like
this to be changed much more easily. In the current configuration,
you can turn on/off pthread and sproc support independently.
