[vtkusers] can store the image in 16 bit format

Hi friends
  I am facing one problem
  I have to store one raw data into TIff format, but because tiff 
reader only store the image in 8 bit char format I am lossing the 
information, can you please suggest me their is any way to store the 
the image in 16 bit format.
