[vtkusers] ATI mobilty m4 troubles

I'm trying to get VTK working on a Dell Inspiron 8000 with Windows 2000 and
a 32MB ATI mobility m4 chipset.
When rendering closed objects, it seems to have trouble figuring out which
surface is on top, so the objects look very strange. If I turn off all
hardware acceleration, the rendering is done correctly but, well, slow
(imagine that).
I'm using the VTK dll's from http://basic.netmeg.net/godzilla/ which are
based on the 5/7/01 nightly release.
Has anyone else seen this? Is the problem likely to go away if I use a
newer CVS snap-shot or older stable release? Any other hints on how I might
get this problem worked out?
thanks,
eric
