[vtkusers] ANNOUNCE: ActiViz/PolyView, Kitware's Low-Cost Polygonal Editor/Viewer

Hi Folks-

Kitware has released ActiViz/PolyView 1.0, a low cost ($60) polygonal editor/viewer for Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000. PolyView is available as a stand-alone application, or as a programmable control that you can embed into Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visual Basic, etc. documents. Some of the features of PolyView include:

+ Reads VRML, 3D Studio, Wavefront OBJ, Stereo lithography STL, VTK, Unigraphics facet FAC, and MOVIE.BYU files.
+ Decimates, smooths, cleans, and generates normals for polygonal data.
+ Annotates with feature, boundary, and other types of edges; and flying axes.
+ Writes VRML, STL, OBJ, VTK, and MOVIE.BYU files.
+ Supports run-time switching between trackball and joystick mode.
+ Supports camera and light reset; a menu of surface properties; background color and other properties can be specified.
+ Data can be embedded into documents; you can exchange interactive documents (via email or standard file exchange) that can be viewed by anyone else with PolyView...a great way to communicate complex data.
+ Extensive API enables Visual Basic scripting to control the camera, load data, set parameters, edit data, save and view.
+ Supports printing and copying to the clipboard.
+ Complete on-line help is available.
+ Sample Word and PowerPoint documents are included.
+ Available for download and 30-day trial (from http://www.kitware.com/ActiViz/PolyView10p1.exe).
+ Larger sites may be interested in the author-and-distribute license; this allows anyone with a PolyView installation (even an unlicensed installation) to view any document created by the author-and-distribute licensee.
