[vtkusers] vtk java and pthreads?

hi,

Under linux, in order to make the java bindings, does one have to use
pthreads?  If so what is to be done and how?  Is it enough to add a
-DVTK_USE_PTHREADS to user.make??  

Does the pthread stuff apply only to the java bindings or does it
apply to the other libs too?

I dont use the java bindings but am trying to make new debian
packages for vtk.
