Rather than testimony, is it possible to design an effective test to rank
the candidate coding
methods?  But before that, would it make sense to roughly spec the
requirements of a GUI ?
This GUI concept was discussed at the BOF session at the LA Siggraph in
1997(?) and is
 still an interesting topic.
Is there enough interest to justify forming a website to collect thoughts
and possible consensus
on a GUI Design(s)
