attribute data for cells

Hi, 

I'm wondering if it is possible to assign attribute data to a given cell
in an unstructured grid. Obviously, it is possible to do that for the
points, but is it possible to assign labels to cells of an unstructured
grid (e.g. a tetrahedral mesh).
