Problem from UCD to vtk.

I have a UCD file in AVS format which is a UCD_hexahedron. Each cell has
20 nodes including the middle-edge nodes. When I tranform the file into 
VTK unstructured grid format, there is a reading data error. Is it the
reason that the corresponding VTK_HEXAHEDRON (type12) cell has only 8
nodes in it? Does the vtk hexahedron accept middle edge-node like what AVS
does?
