sphere benchmarks on VTK Quality WinNT machine

I believe we ordered it directly from 3D Labs.  I believe it was $225 (US). While the performance is
not ground shaking, it is approximately as fast as the AccelEclipse II board which cost around $1200
(US)  fifteen months ago.  Also, the Permedia 3 board is about twice as fast (on our tests ) as the
old FireGL 1000 boards.

The Permedia 3 board is supposed to support OpenGL 1.2, but we do not have OpenGL 1.2 dll's or
include files.  We are trying to track these down.  The performance may change under OpenGL 1.2,  If
the driver/libraries are updated, I'll resubmit the performance numbers.

I did not knew that the Permedia 3 was already available. Could you give us
some clues regarding its price ?

I hope the drivers are not optimized yet, because the results are kind of
disappointing :

   1) 256x256 :  443.5 kpolys/s : [stripper]
   2) 256x256 :  241.7 kpolys/s : [small_sphere]
   3) 256x256 :  222.5 kpolys/s : [transparency]
   4) 256x256 :  220.6 kpolys/s : []

And here is the results of the good old Permedia 2 (around $100) : 154
kpolys/s at 128x128 [] (that was my previous board) with a single PII @
300, and someone reported 220 kpolys/s with a PII @ 350 and overclocked bus
(which seems strange).

Permedia 3 was meant to be a killer :( I hope it's not too expensive, and
stilling filling a "niche" in the market. Let's say not more than $400,
otherwise it might not be worth the price (except the good geometry engine).
