[vtk-developers] Assimp integration

Hi,

I integrated Assimp into VTK as part of a project. For those unfamiliar, it's a 3D model loader library that imports many file formats (and exports a few). It also has optional post-processing features for simplifying/cleaning up meshes. Would this be of any use in VTK?

I needed to integrate it for my specific case because I needed to use Collada since it supported vertex weights (and none of the current VTK import formats support this).
