As Marcus said, the last time this was discussed we wanted to do
2.8.8 anyway but didn't due to the dashboard update requirement.
Therefore I think we can proceed with the dashboard update and
bump to 2.8.8 regardless of whether we use OBJECT libraries for
python wrapper initialization.
