[vtk-developers] CMake 2.4 requirement for development branch of VTK

Hello,

We are considering requiring CMake 2.4 for the development branch of 
VTK. The motivation for this is that CMake 2.4 contains substantial 
amount of features that would ease the future development on the VTK and 
related projects.

These features include:

* Support for 64 bit Windows
* Support for Visual Studio 8
* Support for new Xcode (including better support for bundles)
* Dart2 support
* Better installing of files
* CPack - Software Packaging support
* List and math functionality
* Better dependency checking

There are several other benefits to switching to CMake 2.4.

We are proposing to require CMake 2.4 as of August 1st 2006 on.

The proposed process is to include a warning in the top level CMake list 
file that would warn the developer that VTK will require the CMake 2.4 
on August 1st. On the August 1st we change the warning into error.
