A quick update on some improved support for OpenVR/Vive in ParaView. Over
the past few months there has been a lot of work put into improving the
integration of OpenVR with ParaView and VTK including extending VTK's event
model to better handle 3D events. Almost all of these changes have been
merged to VTK and PV master now for you to enjoy. They are still in
development so you may run into issues crashes etc. Here are some of the
new features

   - OpenVR support is now a plugin that can loaded into PV like any other
plugin. It does require PV be built with the vtkRenderingOpenVR modules
   though.
   - The ParaView GUI no longer locks up when in VR this allows animations
etc to be run while in VR (alpha, send to VR first then start the animation)
   - It now supports selection of scalar field while in VR
   - It now supports adding multiple crop widgets in VR
   - It no longer depends on the SDL2 library
   - It now supports the distance widget in VR
   - It now support cell data probing from within VR
   - It supports navigation panel in VR showing location and bearing
   - It loads/saves recorded camera poses into the PV state file
   - Includes a new Menu Widget that provides an easy API for adding menus
   and submenus into VR.
   - Includes optional floating labels for controller buttons

These changes reflect a lot of work from Lucas Gandel, Jc Fillion-Robin and
Jean-Baptiste Vimort as well as generous support from our commercial and
federal customers.

You can find a windows executable at the paraview download page and a
direct link here

And over the next few weeks we hope to get a nightly release with Python
started that includes OpenVR support as well.

Please let me know if you run into issues, have contributions, or would
like to talk about future work/extensions.

Thanks!
Ken
