Yes, it works.
Paraview 5.4 with OpenMPI 1.7.3
konsole─┬─bash───mpirun───80*[pvserver]
├─bash
└─{konsole}
Node: 20 cores with hyperthreading.
It should be related to your mpi environment: may be oversubscribing (more than
one mpi process by core) is not the default behavior.
