[Paraview] How to label cell or point by variable value in Paraview 4.0?

Earlier versions of Paraview (3.x) had the extremely useful option to use
the value of any variable as the label for selected points or cells.  That
feature seems to be missing in version 4.0 and newer.  Has this been
removed completely, or is there just a different way of doing that in the
new version?
