Hello Lorenzo.
First, you should check that the "Result" vector that you built in the
Calculator filter is the vector used by LIC: check it at the bottom of
the Display tab of your Calculator object.
Second, your vector should not be the (0,0,0) vector ! Of course, if
your scalars U_X, U_Y and U_Z are 0 everywhere, the "Result" Vector will
be (0,0,0) everywhere and LIC will not work! LIC absolutely needs a
vector that is not (0,0,0) ant that is different from the Normal vector !
Making an "oilflow" visualization if you don't have a non zero surface
velocity vector or a non zero skin friction vector makes no sense. But
you may get something that looks like an oilflow provided you use any
vector that has a non zero projection on the surface. For instance,
using several instances of the Calculator filter, you may construct each
scalar component vx, vy, vz of the vector from formulas using the x,y,z
coordinate, then build a "Result" vector from these non zero scalar
components. But it will be better if you can provide data with some kind
of surface velocity or friction vector.
Richard.
