[Paraview] Issue with vtkStructuredGrid and ParaView

I am trying to visualise a structured grid using ParaView. I am able to
create a vtkStructuredGrid and read it into ParaView fine. ParaView returns
the correct number of points and cells. However, it doesn't display anything
even though I followed the example in the VTK tutorials. Have I missed a
step out or could this be related to my (I,J) ordering? Example code below:

  vtkSmartPointer<vtkStructuredGrid> grid =
vtkSmartPointer<vtkStructuredGrid>::New();
  grid->SetDimensions(i, j, 1);
  grid->SetPoints(nodes);
  for (int var = 0; var != numVars; ++var)
    grid->GetPointData()->AddArray(vars[var]);
  grid->Update();
