[Paraview] Problems with libIOKit building ParaView 3.8.0 or ParaView 3.10.0 on OS X 10.5.8

I am helping a colleague build ParaView on their Mac running OS X 10.5.8 and
running into an error with the libIOKit. At first I thought it might have
something to do with PV; later I thought perhaps not as it happened with
both ParaView 3.8 and 3.10.

ParaView 3.10.0 RC1 (with XCode + system tools 3.1.2, later still with
upgraded 3.1.4+tools):

cc1plus: error: /usr/lib/libIOKit.dylib: not a directory
