Hi David,
I think you have to put the temp array not to the geometry tag, but to
an attribute tag.
I am not quite sure if the X_Y type exists, if not you could try to
<Xdmf>
<Domain>
<Grid GridType="Uniform">
<Topology Type="Polyvertex" Dimensions="241 241 1"> </Topology>
<Geometry Type="X_Y">
<DataItem DataType="Float" Precision="4" Dimensions="1 241 241"
Format="HDF">
test.h5:/bands/latitude
</DataItem>
<DataItem DataType="Float" Precision="4" Dimensions="1 241 241"
Format="HDF">
test.h5:/bands/longitude
</DataItem>
</Geometry>
<Attribute AttributeType="Scalar" Center="Cell" Name="Ttemp">
<DataItem DataType="Float" Precision="4" Dimensions="1 241 241"
Format="HDF">
test.h5:/bands/temp
</DataItem>
</Grid>
</Domain>
</Xdmf>
or
<Xdmf>
<Domain>
I am not quite sure if the X_Y type exists. Possibly you got to use
one of the other Geometry options. Hope this will help you.
Cheers Johannes

I would recommend writing an XDMF interface. XDMF is a text (XML)
format that you can use to describe the content of the hdf file. Once
you have the xdmf file paraview will be able to ingest your data.

This is what I have already done (see listing below).
It works to have a 3D representation. However I do not want the
temperature as a height value but a color. z will be constant, for
example 100.
<Xdmf>
<Domain>
<Grid GridType="Uniform">
<Topology Type="Polyvertex" Dimensions="241 241 1"> </Topology>
<Geometry Type="X_Y_Z">
<DataItem DataType="Float" Precision="4" Dimensions="1 241 241"
Format="HDF">
test.h5:/bands/latitude
</DataItem>
<DataItem DataType="Float" Precision="4" Dimensions="1 241 241"
Format="HDF">
test.h5:/bands/longitude
</DataItem>
<DataItem DataType="Float" Precision="4" Dimensions="1 241 241"
Format="HDF">
test.h5:/bands/temp
</DataItem>
</Geometry>
</Grid>
</Domain>
</Xdmf>
