[Paraview] automated rendering - python interface

I would automate the rendering process of sets of data that we routinely
generate.  I am looking at the python interface for doing this, ideally,
create a source, apply some filters and render.  Does anyone know of some
good documentation on how to do this?  I looked around and haven't found
any, and there is nothing in the examples either
