[Paraview] Comparing datasets - taking a difference

Hi there,
It might be trivial but still I have not been able to do it or find
anything on it. Apologies if this is a dumb question!
I have output from model runs stored in consecutive files, say
"abc000xxx.vtk" where xxx goes from 001 to 030 (say).
I want to compare two different datasets, i.e. files of the same name
(and on the same grid and at the same times) in two different folders to
see what effect some changes in the model had.
I can easily look at them, side by side, but I would like to take (for
example) the difference between the two datasets for some variable, be
it over all times or at discrete times, i.e. for individual files.
I've tried using the calculator, but cannot manage to take a difference
between two variables of the same name but coming from different
datasets. I tried grouping the two datasets but still I don't see how to
take that difference.
Any help is greatly appreciated, even if it's just a link to some
resource that I might have overlooked in my searches.
Chris
PS: Is there a better way to search the mailing list archives than
clicking on some view on http://www.paraview.org/pipermail/paraview/ for
one month after another and then searching for some keywords in the
subject line? Or manually downloading all gzip's and grepping those
locally? The help section on paraview.org hints on it ("search tool
provided above") but once more I cannot find anything.
