In my experience, what makes that kind of error go away for that
particular version that comes with OpenFOAM is use the filter "Extract
Parts", select the "Internal mesh" there and apply the Plot Filter on
that.

PS: Maybe you should have mentioned where you got your version of
paraview from (OpenFOAM). It would help people to classify your
problem
