Hi ,

Maybe just deactivating the immediate mode will help you (if you can fit 
your data on the GPU), the painter will stop sending progress events each 
time it refreshes the screen.

Edit->settings 
        Render View menu, 
                unselect Use Immediate Mode Rendering
