[Paraview] Arrow Glyphs imapping velocity vectors in turbulent flow

I am trying to visualize the vector field in explosive data 
characterized by turbulent flow. I am searching for an algorithm, or 
reference, to a technique that will "thin" the number of vectors. My 
goal is to accomplish this without introducing patterns or artifacts 
native to the thinning process.

Any ideas or references would be appreciated.
