I have had this and other problems with my Red Hat 9.0. My system admin 
said that it is not supported by Red Hat and that we should move away 
from Red Hat 9 because it causes too many problems.

we finally purchased the Entreprise version of Red Hat (or whatever the 
name is, I am not the sys admin here). That is not free anymore, but it 
should solve all these problems.
