Thanks for that info. That at least rules out the possibility that the new rendering backend in paraview is the cause of my trouble. I secretly hoped that it was caused by the change to that rather than some other system change here. I will keep playing.

So, the problem may be the different version of ParaView  you have or a vlg configuration problem/graphics card driver problem.
