I'm not sure that I agree with this. I rather like the current behavior of reporting statistics. The problem with spaghetti plots is they get real messy real fast (and the current plot view does not do a brilliant job displaying them). Thus, I have two counter proposals.

Proposal #1: Move the checkbox to the top of properties panel to make it easier to find. Also, maybe we can think of a new label that is easier to understand. This might include negating the behavior. For example, "Plot Each Selected Element As Its Own Line" might be easier to understand.

Proposal #2: Same as proposal #1 except instead of a checkbox toggling between 2 choices, you have a combo box toggling between three choices. The first two choices are the same as before ("Only Report Selection Statistics" and "Plot Each Selected Element As Its Own Line"). The third choice is "Report Statistics For Larger Selections". This choice would show each element as its own line if the number of points/cells is below some threshold (say 5), and use statistics if it is above. I like this solution because it will behave as expected if the user picks a couple of points/cells. However, I'm not thrilled with the behavior that is a bit hard to predict.

Subject: Plot selection over time filter

Guys,
I have been having issues with the PlotSelectionOverTime filter with multiple selections. With Ken's' excellent help, I discovered the "Only Report Selection Statistics", turned on by default. NO ONE is noticing this toggle, and it is causing lots of issues. I asked a user for advice, and he suggested that the PlotSelectionOverTime filter, for multiple selections, not report statistics, but rather what Ken wonderfully calls a spaghetti plot (I.e., Only Report Selection Statistics off". Then, lets create another filter called PlotSelectionStatisticsOverTime, which has our current default behavior. I am really warming up to this idea. The other idea would be to change the default behavior - but then no one would notice the statistics version.

Thoughts?
