The event will take place on May 25 - 26 in Cagliari, island of Sardinia, Italy. The Symposium will be held in conjunction with EuroVis 2015. *** NOTE: there are two tracks for this year?s symposium, full papers and visualization showcase short papers *** The importance of parallel computing is increasing rapidly with the ubiquitous availability of multi-core CPUs, GPUs, and cluster systems. Computationally demanding and data-intensive applications in graphics and visualization are strongly affected by this trend and require novel efficient parallel solutions. The aim of this symposium is to foster the exchange of experiences and knowledge exploiting and defining new trends in parallel graphics and visualization. The proceedings of the EGPGV Symposium will be published in the Eurographics Proceedings Series and in the Eurographics Digital Library. Focusing on parallel computing, the symposium seeks papers on graphics and visualization techniques, data structures, algorithms, and systems for: * large-data * clusters * (multi-)GPU computing, and heterogeneous, hybrid architectures * out-of-core * hybrid distributed and shared memory architectures * grid and cloud environments In particular the symposium topics include: * computationally and data intensive rendering * scientific visualization (volume rendering, flow and tensor visualization) * information visualization and visual analytics * simulations for virtual environments (physics-based animation, collision detection, acoustic) * mesh processing, level-of-detail, and geometric methods * visual computing (image- and video-based rendering, image processing and exploitation, segmentation) * scheduling, memory management and data coherence * large and high resolution displays, virtual environments * scientific, engineering, and industrial applications Full papers are expected to be eight to ten (8-10) pages in length, with the final length appropriate to the contribution of the paper. Papers should be submitted using the Eurographics Conference style (https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/PGV_2015/GetConferenceFile?fileID=6146). Please use this linked version, which contains the correct details for EGPGV. The expected schedule is as follows: * Full Paper Due: February 20, 2014 *** NEW DATE *** * Author Notification: March 27, 2014 * Camera-Ready Paper Due: April 8, 2014 The best paper will be invited to submit an extended version to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG). Scientific Visualization Showcase This year we present a new track for EGPGV 2015, which provides a forum for the year's most instrumental movies in parallel graphics and visualization. Finalists will compete for the Best Visualization Award, and each finalist will present his or her movie during a dedicated session at EGPGV ?15 in a 10-minute presentation. Movies are judged based on how their movie illuminates science, by the quality of the movie, and for innovations in the process used for creating the movie. The accepted submissions will appear as short papers in the symposium proceedings. Review and selection process: Submission should include ?Visualization Showcase:? at the beginning of the paper title. Submissions needed to include a movie (up to 150MB in size) and a short paper (up to 4 pages including references). The short paper should describe the scientific story conveyed by the movie, how the visualization helps scientific discovery, and the "state-of-the-practice" information behind making the movie. The short paper should be submitted using the Eurographics Conference style (https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/PGV_2015/GetConferenceFile?fileID=6146). Please use this linked version, which contains the correct details for EGPGV. Each submission will be peer reviewed by the EGPGV Paper Chairs. Criteria for revision include: 1. Compelling visualization 2. Visualizing data involving parallel graphics and/or visualization in a significant way (e.g., data size, parallel processing, parallel rendering) 3. Meaningful and compelling science story 4. Description of visualization techniques necessary to accomplish the movie The expected schedule is as follows: * Showcase Submission Due: February 28, 2014 * Author Notification: March 27, 2014 * Camera-Ready Paper Due: April 8, 2014 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This works well enough if the user selects points, uses the 'Extract Selection Filter' and remembers to click Apply. I can check if the active source filter is an 'ExtractSelection' easily enough by name, which is some help, but if the user has not clicked apply, ParaView likes to crash out (PV 4.1 on Windows 7 does anyway). Auto-apply is better avoided, especially for large models. Is there a way to check to check if the source data has (or has not) been extracted and applied? I've tried using UpdateVTKObjects() etc to force the apply, but no joy... regards, Richard From utkarsh.ayachit at kitware.com Thu Feb 12 08:12:02 2015 From: utkarsh.ayachit at kitware.com (Utkarsh Ayachit) Date: Thu, 12 Feb 2015 08:12:02 -0500 Subject: [Paraview-developers] Gatekeeper Review Summary Message-ID: Topics merged into master (v4.3.1-157-g544b3a7): cinema_specA_tweaks hdf5_linking_for_CGNSReader include-testing-macros no-tmp-dirs remove-dot-orig-files-from-visitbridge From wascott at sandia.gov Thu Feb 12 20:08:41 2015 From: wascott at sandia.gov (Scott, W Alan) Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2015 01:08:41 +0000 Subject: [Paraview-developers] Mantis options Message-ID: When i click View Issues, I use to have an option called Hide Status or somesuch. Message-ID: <593AFCE559F11049B8F268BE84170A0DC12EF5@EXCHMBX03.fed.cclrc.ac.uk> Hi, I am currently reading out the view frustum via the vtkCamera. I am using ParaView 3.98.1. With the method getFrustumPlanes(double aspectRatio, double[24] planes) I can access the planes. The documentation states that the plane equation coefficients are returned as left, right, bottom, top, far, near. When I look at the output, then it seems that near and far are swapped. For example, I set my camera to look in the -z direction. The documentation states that the plane normals point inwards. Hence, I assume that the first three coefficients for the far plane should be 0,0,1 and for the near plane 0,0,-1. But just the opposite is the case. The other planes (left, right, bottom, top) seem to point inwards. I am a bit confused by this. Does anyone know what my mistake or misconception is? I am running into a conceptual issue when I try to connect my vtkDataSet with ellipsoidal glyphs. Our vtkDataSet contains VTK_VERTEX cells. Each point corresponds to some data which I would like to represent with an Ellipsoid, essentially representing our data. This ellipsoid is different for each point. The entire data set can be set to one type of ellipsoid-glyph, via: ... vtkPVGlyphFilter *glyphFilter = vtkPVGlyphFilter::New(); glyphFilter->SetInputData(myInputVtkDataSet); glyphFilter->SetSourceConnection(myOneEllipsoid->GetOutputPort()); glyphFilter->Update(); myVtkPolyData->ShallowCopy(glyphFilter->GetOutput()); But I am puzzeled how I could set a each point in the vtkDataSet to its individual glyph. If anyone has an idea or opinon about how this can be implemented, I would be happy to hear about it. Just for reference reasons and to close this thread, I will briefly explain how we do it. The way we do it seems quite inefficient and there is probably a much more elegant and better way out there. Instead of creating a vtkDataSet and then passing this to a vktPVGlyphFilter to append our glyphes, we append the glyphes while we create the data in the first place, i.e. one by one. A mocked code example looks something like this: vtkAppendPolyData* appendFilter = vtkAppendPolyData::New(); const int resolution = 6; for (int i = 0; i < numPoints; i++) { vtkPoints *point = vtkPoints::New(); point->Allocate(1); vtkFloatArray * signal = vtkFloatArray::New(); sgnal->Allocate(1); signal->SetName("myName"); signal->SetNumberOfComponents(1); vtkUnstructuredGrid *dataSet = vtkUnstructuredGrid::New(); dataSet >Allocate(1); dataSet ->SetPoints(point); dataSet >GetCellData()->SetScalars(signal); vtkVertex * vertex = vtkVertex::New(); vtkIdType id_xyz = point->InsertNextPoint(x,y,z); vertex->GetPointIds()->SetId(0, id_xyz); dataSet->InsertNextCell(VTK_VERTEX, vertex->GetPointIds()); // The integrated intensity = the signal on that point. signal->InsertNextValue(static_cast( myData.getIntensity(i) )); peakPoint->Squeeze(); peakDataSet->Squeeze(); std::vector radii = myData.getRadii(i); vtkParametricEllipsoid* ellipsoid = vtkParametricEllipsoid::New(); ellipsoid->SetXRadius(radii[0]); ellipsoid->SetYRadius(radii[1]); ellipsoid->SetZRadius(radii[2]); vtkParametricFunctionSource* ellipsoidSource = vtkParametricFunctionSource::New(); ellipsoidSource->SetParametricFunction(ellipsoid); ellipsoidSource->SetUResolution(resolution); ellipsoidSource->SetVResolution(resolution); ellipsoidSource->SetWResolution(resolution); ellipsoidSource->Update(); // Here we add more filters and transforms but this should be the same .... vtkPVGlyphFilter *glyphFilter = vtkPVGlyphFilter::New(); glyphFilter->SetInputData(peakDataSet); glyphFilter->SetSourceConnection(ellipsoidSource-->GetOutputPort()); glyphFilter->Update(); vtkPolyData *glyphed = glyphFilter->GetOutput(); appendFilter->AddInputData(glyphed); } vtkPolyData* polyData = appendFilter->GetOutput(); Our code is along these lines. As we have only comparably few data points, it is not too bad to work with this method. If there are any suggestions, regarding a better way of achieving this, we would be happy to hear about it. All best, Paul Navratil Texas Advanced Computing Center Scientific Visualization Showcase This year we present a new track for EGPGV 2015, which provides a forum for the year's most instrumental movies in parallel graphics and visualization. Message-ID: <593AFCE559F11049B8F268BE84170A0DC13151@EXCHMBX03.fed.cclrc.ac.uk> Hi, I am currently working on a customization of ParaView (PV 3.98.1) which uses its animation capabilities. Hence I need to set TIME_STEPS in the requestInformation method of my source plugin. It works quite nicely in fact. An issue occurs, when I create a second instance of the same type of source. The second source has different time information compared to the original source. I would like to use this second time information. But it seems that the time information is not updated when the requestInformation method is called for the new source. In the requestData method I retrieve the time information via time =outInfo->Get(vtkStreamingDemandDrivenPipeline::UPDATE_TIME_STEP()); This returns the old time information. How can I enforce an update in ParaView? I believe something similar was discussed in: http://public.kitware.com/pipermail/paraview/2010-November/019492.html. But unfortunately the answer seems to be cut off. Any ideas or help is very much appreciated. Message-ID: <54EF6D88.5070109@gmail.com> Hi All, This is in regard to what to me seems like a bug in dependency chain of the CS and Python wrapping. Yesterday I was debugging a segv on 4.3.1 build on our Cray and I had to test a different a different OpenGL build. So I opened up the CMakeCache of my build and changed the one variable- namely the one specifying the OpenGL library. This should have resulted in the executables and a few of the libs re-linking, however in addition all of the CS and Python wrapping was regenerated and those files recompiled and re linked. As a result what should have been a 5min tweak took over an hour! I guess that the wrappers are custom command/targets in CMake and that the dependency is not set correctly. Am I right? I'm happy to file a bug report if this something that you'd be willing to fix. ;-) Burlen From burlen.loring at gmail.com Thu Feb 26 14:17:49 2015 From: burlen.loring at gmail.com (Burlen Loring) Date: Thu, 26 Feb 2015 11:17:49 -0800 Subject: [Paraview-developers] wrapping cmake dependency issue? When you create the first source, ParaView internal clock realizes that there are a set of timesteps available, say A and will change the global time to the first timestep in A and also update the animation to iterate through timesteps in A sequentially. When you add another source with another set of timesteps, say B, ParaView updates the internal clock to be a union of timesteps provided by all the sources by both the sources thus (A U B). The current clock time isn't updated since it's in this set of timesteps available. If you're only interested in the second source, try removing the first source before adding the second, rather than the other way. If you want to simply set a specific timestep, get access to the animation scene and then directly change its animation time.
