I agree. Also, the colors could be better (white does not come out that
well over map).

 Ideally it'd be nice to have users customize it's position, orientation,
ticks, and tick labels, but it's a good start.

*@Daniel, I think I may have fixed the offset problem you were seeing.
Basically you were converting normamlized mercator to spherical mercator
(same major and minor) where as google maps uses elliptical mercator
(shorter minor). If you zoom in close enough virginia beach lat-lon are
matching with google maps lat lon. *
