RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INVOLVING MACHINE LEARNING AND IMAGE ANALYSIS

Kitware is seeking to hire highly skilled Research and Development
Engineers (R&D Engineers) for our data analysis efforts. A passion
for C++ programming to solve challenging data analysis problems is
required.
Kitware collaborates on basic and applied research and development
projects that span all forms of data analysis and visualization. Our
collaborators include the top universities from around the world,
national research labs, medical device manufacturers, car
manufacturers, oil and gas companies, financial institutes, and many
others. Our efforts build upon our extensive C++ software libraries

Nearly half of the R&D Engineers at Kitware have Ph.D.s in their
respective fields. All of our R&D Engineers have a passion for C++

development practices

● Grant writing and publication experience is a bonus

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Applies extensive technical expertise towards integrated system solutions of complex technical problems and provides solutions that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Work is performed without appreciable direction and with considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for providing leadership in the development of cutting edge products used in the medical field. Specific tasks include:
· Designing, developing, testing and documenting software, mechanical, and electrical components and applications
· Creating and improving complex algorithms associated with surgical navigation systems
· Leading requirements gathering, estimating, and planning efforts
· Provides expertise and leadership for performing hazards and failure analysis.
· Interfacing with mechanical, electrical, systems, and test engineers
· Troubleshooting, debugging, maintaining, and supporting existing products
· Supporting labs and surgical evaluations of products
· Representing the company at industry trade shows and customer sites
· Participating in and leading on-going professional development activities
· Following Medtronic Navigation product development standards and practices.
· Identifying and implementing process improvements
· Willingness and ability to assume increased responsibility
· Effectively leading development teams
· Occasional domestic and international travel may be required

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED
· B.S./B.A. in Engineering or similar related field
· M.S. or Ph.D. degree preferred
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
· 5+ years of development experience with B.S./B.A.
· 3+ years of development experience with M.S./M.A.
· 0+ years of development experience with Ph.D
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
· Strong knowledge of software design, development, debug and test practices
· Experience with programming in C/C++
· Algorithm development

· Clinical experience and domain knowledge in at least one of the following surgical fields: cranial neurosurgery, spine, ENT, or orthopedics
· Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions
· Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas
· Ability to assess new technologies via comprehensive reviews of the state-of-the-art
· Familiarity and experience working with Matlab, Linux, and scripting languages
· Project management skills, including planning, estimation and requirements management
